Kamen Rider Revice (仮面ライダーリバイス, Kamen Raidā Ribaisu) is a Japanese tokusatsu drama series produced by Toei Company. The series is the 32nd installment in the Kamen Rider franchise overall and the third series to debut in the Reiwa era. Kamen Rider Revice serves as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Kamen Rider franchise. The series premiered in Japan on September 5, 2021, joining Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger in the Super Hero Time programming block after the premiere of Kamen Rider Saber. In Indonesia, the series began airing on RTV on May 13, 2024 with an Indonesian-language dub.
Premise
The story centers on the Igarashi family, an ordinary family that runs a public bathhouse named "Shiawase Yu". The eldest son, Ikki Igarashi, is a spirited young man with a strong sense of justice. From time to time, he hears a strange "demon's whisper" from within himself, but he ignores it for the sake of his family and the public bathhouse they manage. Problems arise when a demon-worshipping organization called the Deadmans begins attacking and using a mysterious device named the Vistamp to turn the dark side of humans into monsters. To protect his family, Ikki listens to the demon's whisper inside his body and makes a contract with a demon named Vice, which allows both of them to transform into Kamen Riders. Ikki becomes Kamen Rider Revi while Vice, who now has a physical form, becomes Kamen Rider Vice. Together, they are known as Kamen Rider Revice.
Characters
The Igarashi Family and Allies
Ikki Igarashi (portrayed by Kentaro Maeda) is the main character who transforms into Kamen Rider Revi. His warm personality and his desire to protect the people he loves become his main strengths. His partner, Vice (voiced by Subaru Kimura), is the demon that lives inside Ikki's body. Vice has a mischievous personality, likes to joke, and often argues with Ikki, although they are ultimately complementary partners. Ikki's younger brother, Daiji Igarashi (portrayed by Wataru Hyuga), is a member of the anti-demon organization Fenix, who was originally destined to become Kamen Rider Revice but failed. In the course of the story, he succeeds in mastering the demon inside himself and transforms into Kamen Rider Live and Evil. Their younger sister, Sakura Igarashi (portrayed by Ayaka Imoto), is a high school student who later joins the battle as Kamen Rider Jeanne with her own demon, Lovekov (voiced by Miku Itō).
Organizations and Supporting Characters
Fenix is a government organization established to fight the Deadmans. The genius scientist behind the Rider system is George Karizaki (portrayed by Noritaka Hamao), a huge fan of the Kamen Rider series who develops various Vistamps and transformation devices. On the enemy side, the Deadmans are a demon-worshipping sect led by Aguilera (portrayed by Yui Asakura), with her subordinates Orteca and Julio. Another group called Weekend later appears as a resistance faction that helps the heroes fight a greater threat.
System and Powers
Vistamps and Drivers
The core of Kamen Rider Revice's power lies in the Vistamp, a stamp-shaped device developed from ancient technology. By using the Revice Driver, Ikki and Vice can transform and access various "Genome" forms based on animals that also serve as tributes to previous Kamen Riders. Their base form is Rex Genome, powered by the strength of the T-Rex dinosaur. Other Vistamps, such as Eagle, Mammoth, and Lion, grant new abilities inspired by animals and legendary heroes.
Remix and Upgraded Forms
One of Revice's unique features is the "Remix" ability, in which Ikki and Vice merge into a powerful hybrid creature that combines both of their strengths. As the story develops, they access stronger forms such as Barid Rex Genome, which has ice power, and Volcano Rex Genome, which combines fire and ice elements. Their strongest form is Ultimate Revice, achieved by using the Giffard Rex Vistamp to fight the main threat in the series.
Broadcast and Reception
In Indonesia, Kamen Rider Revice received a warm reception and began airing on RTV on May 13, 2024. This broadcast became an important moment for tokusatsu fans in Indonesia because the series arrived with an Indonesian-language dub. Initially airing at 8:30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, its broadcast schedule was later changed to every Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time starting May 20, 2024. The presence of Kamen Rider Revice on Indonesian television further enriched the viewing options of children and teenagers who enjoy the superhero genre.
