2026 Asian Games

The 2026 Asian Games, officially known as the 20th Asian Games and also called the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, is an international multi-sport event held in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026. This is the third time Japan has hosted the Asian Games, after Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. The event features 43 sports with a total of 469 gold medals at stake, and is participated in by around 10,840 athletes from 46 member countries and regions of the Olympic Council of Asia.

Host Selection and History

Nagoya was selected as the host of the 2026 Asian Games through a fairly competitive process. The city put itself forward as Japan's sole candidate after several other cities withdrew. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) officially designated Aichi-Nagoya as host in 2016, making it the third city in Japan to host Asia's largest multi-sport festival. The organization of the 2026 Asian Games is under the responsibility of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organizing Committee (AINAGOC), working together with the prefectural and city governments.

Mascot and Visual Identity

The 2026 Asian Games has an official mascot named Honohon, inspired by the flame of spirit and the mythical form of the Shachihoko, which is closely associated with Aichi-Nagoya culture. The official slogan of the event is "Imagine One Asia", which emphasizes the message of unity and connectivity among Asian countries through sport. The 2026 Asian Games logo was designed with elements representing Asia, Aichi, and Nagoya, and uses a color palette that reflects Japanese tradition and environmental awareness.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games was held on September 19, 2026 at Paloma Mizuho Stadium, Nagoya, starting at 4:00 p.m. local time. The event featured a parade of contingents from 45 countries and regions, with more than 280 Japanese athletes entering the stadium last, led by Fujinami Akari, women's wrestling gold medalist at the Paris Olympics, and Nakamura Rimu, a BMX freestyle athlete. Emperor Naruhito of Japan officially declared the 2026 Asian Games open. The torch relay involving around 1,000 runners concluded with the lighting of the cauldron by Murofushi Koji, Olympic hammer throw gold medalist, and his father.

Sports Contested

The 2026 Asian Games features 43 sports covering various disciplines, ranging from athletics, swimming, badminton, and basketball to traditional Asian sports such as kabaddi and sepak takraw. This edition also marks the debut of six new sports: virtual taekwondo, teqball, surfing, BMX freestyle, padel, and mixed martial arts (MMA). The inclusion of these new sports is designed to make the Asian Games more appealing to modern audiences and to broaden the range of sports contested at the Asian level.

Virtual taekwondo uses virtual reality technology and motion trackers to create martial arts matches without physical contact. Teqball combines football skills with a curved table, in which players use their feet, head, and chest to return the ball over the net. Surfing is judged based on the athlete's movements while riding waves, and its competition is held in Tahara, Aichi. BMX freestyle features aerial tricks on bicycles, while padel combines elements of tennis and squash on a glass-walled court. MMA combines various martial arts techniques in a single match.

Indonesia's Participation

Indonesia sent a contingent of 432 athletes competing in 35 sports at the 2026 Asian Games. The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) officially determined the contingent, with Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir targeting four gold medals. Indonesia's flagship sports include badminton, athletics, weightlifting, archery, and esports.

In badminton, Indonesia's men's team won gold after defeating China by a dramatic score of 3-2 in the final held on Thursday, September 24, 2026. This achievement became Indonesia's first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. Meanwhile, in teqball, Indonesian men's singles athlete Yoga Ardika Putra won a bronze medal. Women's teqball athlete Sumaya also advanced to the semifinals, opening medal opportunities for Indonesia in this debut sport.

Challenges and Controversies

The organization of the 2026 Asian Games has not been free from various challenges. One of the main issues is athlete accommodation. The organizers did not provide an athletes' village as is customary, instead placing participants in hotels, temporary container buildings, and the cruise ship Costa Serena. This scheme drew complaints from a number of contingents, including athletes who were reported stranded at the airport because pickup vehicles did not arrive on time, as well as bed sizes that were considered too short for some athletes.

Extreme weather has also been a serious challenge. Heavy rain that hit Japan in the week before the opening caused several areas of Nagoya to be flooded. The threat of a typhoon that could potentially reach Japan's main island, including Nagoya, increased the organizers' alertness to possible disruptions to competition schedules and transportation. Despite facing various obstacles, the organizers remain committed to holding the 2026 Asian Games in a festive manner and attracting international attention.

Impact and Legacy

The 2026 Asian Games has had a significant impact on Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City, especially in terms of sports infrastructure and cultural promotion. A total of 54 venues are used as competition sites, spread not only across Aichi and Nagoya but also in Tokyo, Gifu, Shizuoka, and Osaka. The event also serves as an opportunity for athletes to pursue qualification tickets for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, particularly in surfing and hockey.

From a cultural perspective, the 2026 Asian Games showcases the richness of Japanese tradition through an opening ceremony featuring a parade of contingents in the traditional attire of each country. The hosting of this event also strengthens Nagoya's position as an international city capable of organizing large-scale sporting events.

Closing

The closing ceremony of the 2026 Asian Games is scheduled to take place on October 4, 2026, marking the end of 16 days of competition. In the ceremony, the host baton will be passed to the next organizer. The next edition of the Asian Games will be an opportunity for another country to continue the tradition of Asia's largest multi-sport festival.

Aobazaka46

Aobazaka46 (青葉坂46, pronounced "Aobazaka Forty-six") is a Japanese idol group project formed by Sony Music Japan as part of the Sakamichi Series franchise. Officially announced on August 18, 2026, the group was established for a limited period of one year as a connecting platform toward the three senior groups in the series, namely Nogizaka46, Sakurazaka46, and Hinatazaka46. The name "Aobazaka" itself literally means "Aoba Hill" in Japanese, following the naming pattern typical of the Sakamichi franchise, which uses names of locations in Japan.

Background and Announcement

The existence of Aobazaka46 was first noticed by the public when the domain aobazaka46.com was registered by Sony Music Japan on July 22, 2026. However, widespread attention only emerged on August 16, 2026, when a mysterious advertisement was aired during the flagship Sakamichi Group program, Nogizaka Under Construction on TV Tokyo. The 15-second advertisement showed scenes of Tokyo and figures of girls who appeared to be saying "Aobazaka?" before finally revealing the name "Aobazaka46" along with the date and time, namely August 18, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. JST.

The same advertisement was simultaneously uploaded to the official YouTube channels of Nogizaka46, Sakurazaka46, and Hinatazaka46, sparking widespread speculation among fans. In the video, five members from the three Sakamichi groups appeared, namely Inoue Nagi and Endo Sakura from Nogizaka46, Morita Hikaru and Yamashita Shizuki from Sakurazaka46, and Kosaka Nao from Hinatazaka46. The logo shown in the advertisement was also said to integrate the colors associated with the three Sakamichi groups.

Official Formation and Concept

On August 18, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. JST, through a livestream on the official Sakamichi Group YouTube channel, Aobazaka46 was officially introduced to the public. Unlike previous Sakamichi groups that were formed as permanent entities, Aobazaka46 was designed as a group with a limited active period of one year. This unique concept makes it a "bridge group" aimed at finding and developing new talents before they are permanently placed into one of the three senior groups.

This announcement also marked the start of an open audition to find members of Aobazaka46. Unlike typical Sakamichi groups, whose new members immediately join a specific group, Aobazaka46 audition participants will form the group itself and be active together for a full year. After the one-year period ends, all members will be placed into one of the three senior groups, namely as Nogizaka46's 7th Generation, Sakurazaka46's 5th Generation, or Hinatazaka46's 6th Generation.

Audition and Requirements

The Aobazaka46 audition opened on the same day as the official announcement, August 18, 2026, and will close on October 8, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. JST. The requirement for applicants is women aged between 12 and 20 years old as of October 8, 2026. In addition, participants must be able to take part in the selection process from the second stage onward, and be willing to move and live in Tokyo immediately if selected as regular members.

The audition process itself consists of several fairly rigorous stages. The first stage is a document screening through online registration. The second stage is an online interview scheduled for late October 2026. The third stage is an in-person interview to be held in various cities in Japan, including Sendai, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Nagoya, Tokyo, and Osaka, from late November to early December 2026. The fourth stage is an in-person interview in Tokyo on December 19, 2026, followed by a final interview on December 20, 2026, and concluding with a final training camp selection from December 27 to 29, 2026.

Support from Seniors

The announcement of Aobazaka46 was also accompanied by messages of support from three senior members representing each group. Inoue Nagi of Nogizaka46 said that words of encouragement from Kaki Haruka during her own audition in the past gave her the courage to try, and she encouraged prospective participants not to be afraid to take the first step toward a new world. Morita Hikaru of Sakurazaka46 shared her experience of taking the audition with a lack of confidence and full of anxiety, but her decision to leap based on feelings of "liking" and "admiration" truly changed her life dramatically. Meanwhile, Kosaka Nao of Hinatazaka46 revealed that she wrestled with doubt until the registration deadline, but the belief that "effort is never wasted" and "nothing begins without trying" ultimately gave her courage.

Marketing Strategy and Premiere

Before the official announcement, Aobazaka46's marketing strategy had already attracted considerable attention. In addition to the television advertisement, Sony Music Japan also put up a mysterious outdoor advertisement in Shibuya, Tokyo, that simply read "Aobazaka46 2026.8.18 21:00 Streaming on YouTube". This puzzle-like approach succeeded in creating anticipation and speculation among fans, with various theories emerging ranging from the possibility of a fourth group in the Sakamichi series, a collaboration project among the three groups, to the announcement of a multimedia project such as a game or anime.

The official Aobazaka46 YouTube channel has been launched and in a short time has gathered more than 24,000 subscribers. The group is also active on various social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok. The official audition website has also been launched and supports eight languages, including Indonesian, indicating the global ambition of this project.

Impact and Significance

Aobazaka46 represents a new approach within the Sakamichi Series ecosystem, which has long been dominated by the three main groups. The concept of a one-year group that functions as a "talent factory" for all three groups at once is an innovation that has never been done before in the history of this franchise. Previously, in 2018, a joint audition was held for Nogizaka46, Keyakizaka46, and Hiragana Keyakizaka46 that produced 39 participants from a total of 129,182 applicants, but the participants were immediately placed into their respective groups. Aobazaka46 is different because its members will form a group of their own before eventually being placed.

The group also reflects Sony Music Japan's strategy to continue expanding and renewing the Sakamichi franchise, which has been running for more than a decade. By providing a structured entry path for young talents, Aobazaka46 is expected to become a solution for ensuring the continuity of the three senior groups with a supply of high-quality new members.

Future Prospects

With the audition still ongoing until October 2026 and the selection process continuing until the end of the year, Aobazaka46 is expected to begin its full activities in early 2027. Over the coming year, the group is scheduled to release music, appear at various events, and build its own fan base before the members are eventually placed into their respective senior groups.

The success of this unique concept remains to be seen, but the initial enthusiasm from fans and the presence of strong supporting infrastructure from Sony Music Japan provide a solid foundation for Aobazaka46 to begin its journey. For fans of the Sakamichi Series, Aobazaka46 offers the opportunity to witness the birth of a new generation of idol talent that will shape the future of Nogizaka46, Sakurazaka46, and Hinatazaka46.

AKB48

AKB48 is a Japanese female idol group formed on December 8, 2005 by producer Yasushi Akimoto. The group's name is an abbreviation of Akihabara48, referring to the Akihabara district in Tokyo, the center of Japanese pop culture where the group is based. AKB48 is known as the pioneer of the "idol you can meet" concept, in which fans can watch the members' live performances at a dedicated theater on a regular basis.

History

The group originated from an audition held by Yasushi Akimoto in July 2005, which was attended by 7,924 teenage girls. From those thousands of participants, 45 people were selected as the initial members. AKB48 made its debut by releasing its first single, Sakura no Hanabiratachi, in February 2006. Since then, the group has grown rapidly and even once earned a Guinness World Records title as the "world's largest pop group".

AKB48 originally implemented a team system (Team A, Team K, Team B, Team 4, and Team 8) before that system was eventually abolished on October 17, 2023. In April 2023, Team 8 was declared inactive and all of its members joined the other existing teams.

Members

The lineup of AKB48 members often changes as members "graduate" from the group and are replaced by new members from auditions. This change has become one of the distinctive features of the AKB48 system. In April 2026, the number of AKB48 members was recorded at 51 people.

Generations and Recruitment System

AKB48 recruits members through auditions held periodically. Members are divided by generation, which indicates when they joined. The newest generations such as the 19th, 20th, and 21st generations continue to add new color to the group. The ongoing recruitment process allows AKB48 to keep renewing itself with talented young talent.

General Manager (Sosokan)

The leader or "general manager" of AKB48 and all of its sister groups is currently Narumi Kuranoo. She serves as the fourth-generation general manager after succeeding Mion Mukaichi. Mion Mukaichi herself was the third-generation general manager who graduated from the group in April 2026. In an interview in June 2026, Kuranoo expressed her desire to keep seeking a new form for AKB48 in an ever-changing era.

Discography

65th Single: Masaka no Confession

AKB48's 65th single, titled Masaka no Confession (意外の告白), was released on April 2, 2025. This single was the first release in AKB48's 20th anniversary year. The center position on this single was held by Yagi Azuki (八木愛月).

66th Single: Oh My Pumpkin!

The 66th single was released as AKB48's 20th anniversary single on August 13, 2025. This single was special because it featured legendary members from AKB48's early generations as well as members from international sister groups, including Shania Gracia from JKT48, who also joined as senbatsu. The music video for this single has also been released and received a warm reception from fans.

67th Single: Nagori Zakura

The 67th single, titled Nagori Zakura (名残り桜), was released on February 25, 2026. This single featured 16 senbatsu members led by AKB48's top-tier members.

68th Single: Suki-ish

AKB48's 68th single, titled Suki-ish (好きish), is scheduled for release on August 19, 2026. The single's title is a wordplay on "suki" (like) with the suffix "-ish", meaning "somewhat" or "kind of", so it can be interpreted as "kind of like" or "maybe like". This single has drawn attention because Ito Momoka (伊藤百花) from the 19th generation was entrusted as center for two consecutive singles, an achievement that last occurred about 12 years ago. The music video for this single has been viewed more than 8 million times in about three weeks since its release, showing positive momentum for the group.

Theater and Performances

AKB48 has a dedicated theater in Akihabara, Tokyo, which serves as the venue for the members' regular performances. The "idol you can meet" concept allows fans to watch the members' live performances regularly at this theater.

Yume no Pop Star (Dream Pop Star)

On August 7, 2026, AKB48 began a new theater performance titled Yume no Pop Star (夢のポップスター). This performance carries the theme of "singing ability" (kakuryoku) as its main focus, in which the members return to the basics of being idols, namely "singing and dancing". General Manager Kuranoo stated that through this performance, AKB48 wants to become "the best pop star that can captivate through singing and performance". This performance also serves as a reminder of AKB48's great dream of performing at Tokyo Dome.

AKB48 Group and Sister Groups

AKB48 has many sister groups both inside and outside Japan. Domestically, there are groups such as SKE48 (Nagoya), NMB48 (Osaka), HKT48 (Fukuoka), NGT48 (Niigata), and STU48 (a cruise ship). Outside Japan, AKB48 has formed a number of sister groups spread across various Asian countries.

International Sister Groups

AKB48's first international sister group is JKT48, based in Jakarta, Indonesia, formed in 2011. JKT48 became the pioneer for other international sister groups. After JKT48, AKB48 formed BNK48 in Bangkok, Thailand; MNL48 in Manila, the Philippines; TPE48 in Taipei, Taiwan (previously known as AKB48 Team TP, which officially changed its name to TPE48 on January 18, 2026); and CGM48 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The newest sister group is KLP48, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which is AKB48's 10th international sister group. KLP48 officially debuted on August 18, 2024.

In addition, there is also Quadlips, which is the first international unit from the AKB48 Group involving members from various sister groups.

20th Anniversary

AKB48 celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025 with a series of spectacular concerts. From December 4 to 7, 2025, AKB48 held the AKB48 20th Year Live Tour 2025 at Nippon Budokan, Tokyo. The concert was held across 6 performances and attracted 49,000 fans. The climax on the final night featured 184 members, consisting of 48 active members and 135 former members who returned to perform, making it the largest concert in AKB48 history.

The moment that most shook fans was the return of the first-generation "Kami 7" (神7)—the seven most popular members from the AKB48 general election—in six of its seven members. The six members who appeared were Maeda Atsuko, Oshima Yuko, Takahashi Minami, Itano Tomomi, Shinoda Mariko, and Kojima Haruna. The one member who did not attend was Watanabe Mayu, who has retired from the entertainment world. Oshima Yuko's appearance was especially special because she had just given birth to her second child in May 2025. Maeda Atsuko also wept on stage.

20th Anniversary Single

The 66th single Oh My Pumpkin! was released as part of AKB48's 20th anniversary celebration. This single featured not only active members but also legendary former members and members from international sister groups, making it a special tribute celebrating AKB48's two-decade journey.

Impact and Legacy

AKB48 has become a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. The "idol you can meet" concept they introduced has changed the landscape of the idol industry in Japan and inspired many idol groups throughout Asia. The general election system (sousenkyo) introduced in 2009, in which fans vote for their favorite members to become senbatsu on the next single, has become a model widely imitated by other idol groups.

Entering 2026, AKB48 continues to show its presence by releasing new singles and holding innovative theater performances. General Manager Kuranoo expressed her belief that "a good wave is coming" for AKB48, with the goal of performing at Tokyo Dome and becoming a "pop star" known to the wider public.

JKT48

JKT48 is an Indonesian idol group that is the first sister group of AKB48 outside Japan. Formed in 2011 by producer Yasushi Akimoto, JKT48 carries the "idol you can meet" concept, meaning idols who can be met directly by their fans. Based at JKT48 Theater, located in the FX Sudirman area of South Jakarta, the group has become one of Indonesia's pop culture phenomena, with dozens of members from various generations and dozens of singles released.

History

The formation of JKT48 was first announced on September 11, 2011 at an AKB48 event held at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan. After going through a series of audition processes, JKT48's first generation was introduced to the public on November 2, 2011. JKT48's presence in the Indonesian music industry attracted wide attention because it arrived at a time when music listeners in the country were fond of boybands and girlbands.

Throughout its journey, JKT48 has gone through various eras and transformations. In 2018, the group began to reorganize by introducing a new concept. Entering 2026, JKT48 entered a new chapter with the launch of the JKT48 Fight! era, which marked the return of the team system while also bringing a new spirit of competition among the members.

The JKT48 Fight! Era

In April 2026, JKT48 officially marked the start of a new era under the title JKT48 Fight!. This era revived the team format that had been inactive, with three new teams formed: Team Passion, Team Dream, and Team Love. The three teams successfully held their debut performances (shonichi) with their respective special setlists.

Team Passion opened the series of performances with explosive energy through the setlist "Passion 200%" under the leadership of Christy (7th Generation) as Global Center. Team Dream, led by Marsha (9th Generation), presented a dreamy yet powerful atmosphere in the setlist "Dream Bakudan". Meanwhile, Team Love, commanded by Fiony (8th Generation), offered a sweet and love-filled concept in the setlist "Itadaki Love".

Each team has a contrasting yet complementary color and musical identity. To further assert each team's presence in the digital music industry, JKT48 Fight also released three different music videos (MVs). Team Passion released the MV "Dekat Namun Jauh", Team Dream arrived with the MV "Wakaka People", and Team Love launched the MV "12 Seconds".

Management's decision to revive the team format was warmly welcomed by fans because it was seen as giving members from various generations more room to shine and strengthening bonds among fellow members.

Team System and Leadership

At JKT48's 14th anniversary concert titled "THE FIRST SNOW", held at Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, on December 21, 2025, management officially appointed Freya Jayawardana as the new Captain of JKT48. Freya, a 7th Generation member, replaced Shania Gracia, who ended her career at JKT48 after working for more than 11 years.

The announcement was delivered directly by JKT48 Theater General Manager Melody Laksani at the end of the event. In her first speech as captain, Freya admitted that the responsibility was very heavy, but she was ready to give her best for the group. In her new position, Freya is responsible for leading rehearsals, serving as a communication bridge between members and management, and being the main face representing JKT48 at various events. Freya's appointment was seen as the right step given her more than seven years of experience in the group as well as her wide popularity, not only among loyal fans but also the general public.

Members and Generations

JKT48 has a continuous regeneration system by introducing new generations periodically. As of 2026, JKT48 has had 14 generations of members. The newest generation, the 14th Generation, was officially introduced on February 14, 2026 during the "Sambil Menggandeng Erat Tanganku" setlist performance at JKT48 Theater.

A total of 11 14th Generation trainees were introduced to the public, consisting of Afera Thalia (Fera, 13 years old, Bogor), Carissa Dini (Carissa, 14 years old, Jakarta), Christabella Bonita (Bella, 14 years old, Tangerang), Fahira Putri (Fahira, 13 years old, Jakarta), Fatimah Azzahra (Rara, 15 years old, Depok), Heidi Suyangga (Heidi, 17 years old, Jakarta), Maegan Jovanka (Maegan, 14 years old, Depok), Maxine Faye Lee (Maxine, 14 years old, Jakarta), Putry Jazyta (Jazy, 14 years old, Bogor), Ralyne Van Irwan (Ralyne, 14 years old, Medan), and Sona Kalyana (Sona, 14 years old, Jakarta). With the addition of these 11 new members, the total number of JKT48 trainees reached 20 people, because there were nine 13th Generation members who were still trainees.

Works and Singles

JKT48 has released dozens of singles throughout its career, most of which are adaptations of AKB48 songs rearranged in Indonesian. As of 2026, JKT48 has entered its 27th single release.

The 27th single, titled "Andai 'Ku Bukan Idola", was released on February 4, 2026. The song is an adaptation of AKB48's 62nd single titled "Idol Nanka Janakattara", released on September 27, 2023. This single marked the start of the JKT48 Fight! era in 2026.

The song "Andai 'Ku Bukan Idola" was performed by a 12-member Senbatsu formation, with Fiony Alveria entrusted as center for the first time in her JKT48 career. The Senbatsu lineup consisted of Jessica Chandra, Marsha Lenathea, Mutiara Azzahra, Kathrina Irene, Freya Jayawardana, Angelina Christy, Gita Sekar Andarini, Grace Octaviani, Michelle Alexandra, Febriola Sinambela, Fiony Alveria, and Greesella Adhalia.

The song tells the story of an idol's dilemma of harboring feelings of love but having to hold back because of responsibility toward her public image. The theme of "what if I were not an idol" makes the song feel human and close to fans' feelings. The music video for the song also featured Yui Oguri, one of AKB48's popular members, and some of its footage was shot in Japan, including at AKB48 Theater.

In addition to the 27th single, JKT48 also released other singles in 2026, including "12 Seconds", "WAKAKA PEOPLE", and "Kadang Aku Lupa".

JKT48 Request Hour 2026

One of the annual events anticipated by fans is JKT48 Request Hour, an event in which fans choose 40 favorite songs from the JKT48 catalog through a voting system. JKT48 Request Hour 2026 was held at Tennis Indoor Senayan, Jakarta, on June 13, 2026.

The song "Fajar Sang Idola" (or "Idol no Yoake") took first place in the event. The song was performed by 12 JKT48 members with Jemima Evodie from the 13th Generation as center. As a prize for the song that took the top position, "Fajar Sang Idola" received the opportunity to have an official music video made. The MV was finally released on August 16, 2026. Second place in Request Hour 2026 was taken by "Benang Sari, Putik, dan Kupu-Kupu Malam (NEW ERA Version)", while third place was won by "Si Bintang Jatuh yang Egois".

As with idol groups in general, JKT48 also experiences member turnover through the graduation process. Several members announced their graduations throughout 2026.

Shania Gracia, JKT48 captain from the 3rd Generation who had worked for more than 11 years, held her graduation ceremony at the "THE FIRST SNOW" concert, which was also JKT48's 14th anniversary celebration, on December 20, 2025.

Amanda Puspita Sukma Mulyadewi announced her graduation in October 2025 and officially held her graduation ceremony on March 29, 2026. Chelsea Davina Norman, an 11th Generation member, officially graduated on May 30, 2026. Cathleen Nixie officially graduated from JKT48 on August 15, 2026 through the "Cara Meminum Ramune" performance with Team Love, becoming the first member of that team to complete her service. Alya Amanda, an 11th Generation member, also announced her graduation in 2026.

Theater and Performances

JKT48 Theater, located at FX Sudirman, South Jakarta, is the venue for the group's regular performances. Theater performances are held almost every day with different setlists according to the team appearing. Since the JKT48 Fight! era began, each team has had its own special setlist performed in rotation. Theater performances can also be watched through paid livestreams on the IDN Live platform.

Impact and Influence

As Indonesia's first idol group since 2011, JKT48 has had a significant influence on the country's entertainment industry. JKT48's presence not only introduced Japanese-style idol culture to Indonesian society, but also created an active and loyal fan (wota) ecosystem. The group has also produced a number of members who have gone on to broader careers in entertainment, including acting, modeling, and the digital world.

JKT48 also actively interacts with fans through various digital platforms, including the Showroom app used for members' livestreams. In 2026, JKT48 also has a paid broadcast channel on IDN Live for theater performances.

Cloud ten

Cloud ten is a Japanese male idol group formed by renowned music producer Yasushi Akimoto, the founder of AKB48 and a series of idol groups under the Sakamichi Series. The group is Akimoto's first project for a theater-based male idol group and was officially introduced to the public on April 23, 2026 in Tokyo. The name "Cloud ten" was inspired by the expression "Cloud Nine", which symbolizes peak happiness, with the number "ten" representing the ambition to surpass that happiness.

History and Formation

The project to form the male idol group "Theater Boys Group" was launched in 2025 as a collaboration between Y&N Brothers and Mitsui Fudosan Group, with Yasushi Akimoto serving as general producer. The national-level audition process began in the summer of 2025, followed by a final training camp audition from December 2025 to January 2026. The final member lineup was decided in February 2026, and after going through a series of rigorous selection processes, 30 members were chosen.

The official introductory press conference was held in Tokyo on April 23, 2026, where the members were introduced to the public for the first time. On that occasion, the members immediately showcased the quality of their vocals and the synchronization of their choreography through three main songs. Starting April 26, 2026, the group held a series of introductory events at various commercial facilities in the Tokyo metropolitan area, beginning with an event at Mitsui Outlet Park Yokohama Bayside, Kanagawa.

Members

Cloud ten consists of 30 young men selected through a national audition. The members have highly diverse and unique backgrounds, making the group attract attention from the moment of its appearance. Among the members are university students from prestigious universities such as the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Keio University. In addition, there is also the youngest member, a 13-year-old national dance champion, a professional chef, and an athlete who has competed at the National Sports Festival (Kokutai).

One of the most talked-about members is Fukuma Shin, who was born in Osaka on November 7. He is known for his handsome looks and a special skill of eating with what is said to be the most delicious-looking facial expression in the world, as well as being skilled at riding a unicycle. His hobby is collecting cute items and capsule toys. Another member who has attracted attention is Funamizu Kensuke, who previously worked as a professional chef and was used to cutting fish in the kitchen before passing the audition. Kiyohide Mochizuki, who appeared in the opening performance, is also one of the members known for his charm and ability on stage.

Confirmed members of Cloud ten include Abe Haruto, Inaba Toma, Ueno Seiji, Uji Toma, Ose Raiki, Owada Ayumu, Kitanagi Haru, Kimura Haru, Koroki Yamato, and many more.

Concept and Philosophy

Cloud ten carries a theater-based concept, in which they will perform regularly at a dedicated theater that serves as their home ground. This concept is similar to the model applied by AKB48, where fans can meet the members every day at the theater.

Yasushi Akimoto, at the introductory press conference, emphasized that "watching and experiencing" firsthand is the most valuable asset in life. He cited AKB48 fans who take pride in having seen their idols' struggles from a small theater 20 years ago. Although he is now producing a male group, Akimoto feels there is no major difference from female groups. The foundation of his lyric writing has always been rooted in himself at the age of 16–17, with the nervousness of first love and the bitter memories of adolescence as the driving force of his work. This is why the lyrics of the female groups he writes often use the first-person perspective "I" (boku), which represents his identity in his youth.

The name "Cloud ten" was chosen because it was inspired by the term "Cloud nine", which means the highest happiness, but with the added meaning of going beyond existing frameworks and limits in order to reach an even higher happiness—surpassing the number nine. Member Fukuma Shin also stated the group's ambition to be known not only in Japan but also in the world.

Theater

Cloud ten has a dedicated theater located on the 6th floor of DiverCity Tokyo Plaza, Tokyo. The theater was inaugurated on August 2, 2026 under the name "Cloud ten THEATER supported by みんなのチケット". The theater has a capacity of around 300 seats and functions not only as a venue for regular performances, but also as a place where fans can meet the members every day.

Debut Performance

Cloud ten officially held its debut performance titled "We're Cloud ten" on August 2, 2026 at Cloud ten THEATER. All of the approximately 300 seats in the theater were filled, marking a successful start for this new-generation male idol project. On the first day, 11 members performed a total of 16 songs with a performance concept that combined vocals, dance, and close interaction with the audience. Various group, unit, and solo performances successfully created a lively atmosphere throughout the concert.

Discography

Cloud ten has performed a number of songs in their theater performances. The following is the list of songs performed in the "We're Cloud ten" setlist at their debut performance:

We're Cloud ten served as the opening song that became the theme of their debut performance. Other songs performed included Kimi wa Kimi da, Taiyou no Katamukikata, Gomen Ai Koso Subete, Seishun Tandem, Yuuyake ga Itsumo to Chigatte Mieru, Paparazzi Onigokko, Tanin Kamen, Dress up, Kimi to Someday, An underwater flower, Bokutachi no Jiyuu, Tsugi ni Aeru Hi Made, Eyes on me!!, Shake&Dance, and Colors of us.

Before the debut performance, when they were first introduced to the media, they immediately showcased three main songs that formed the basis of their audition evaluation, namely Sarigenai Mirai (さりげない未来)—the compulsory evaluation song of the training camp, Kimi to Someday (君とSomeday), and Gomen Ai koso Subete (ごめん 愛こそ全て).

Impact and Reception

The presence of Cloud ten captured public attention from the moment it was first introduced. As Yasushi Akimoto's first theater-based male idol project, the group has brought a breath of fresh air to the Japanese idol industry, which has long been dominated by female idol groups. With members' diverse backgrounds—from students at prestigious universities to a former chef and an athlete—Cloud ten offers a unique appeal that differs from typical idol groups.

The group is expected to make a major name for itself in the Japanese entertainment industry, with ambitions to be known not only domestically but also on the international stage. Their successful debut performance with a fully packed theater became an early positive indication for the group's future career path.

Google Gemini

Google Gemini is a family of advanced multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) models developed by Google. Introduced as the successor to Google Bard, Gemini is designed to be an AI assistant capable of understanding and processing various types of input, such as text, images, audio, video, and programming code. Since its official launch in February 2024, Gemini has evolved into one of the most comprehensive AI ecosystems, deeply integrated with Google services and available in various subscription tiers to meet the needs of users ranging from students to enterprises.

History and Development

The roots of Google Gemini lie in Google Bard, a chatbot based on the LaMDA language model that was launched in 2023. A major transformation took place in early 2024 when Bard was upgraded with a more advanced next-generation large language model (LLM). On February 8, 2024, Google officially announced the name change from Bard to Gemini, marking a strategic shift to unify all of its AI capabilities under a single brand umbrella. This change was also accompanied by the launch of the Gemini app for smartphones, which gradually replaced Google Assistant as the primary digital assistant on certain Android devices.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, Google continued to develop Gemini models at a high pace. The launch of models such as Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite demonstrated Google's commitment to providing models with a balance between high intelligence and low latency, especially for programming and agentic tasks. Recent innovations include the introduction of Gemini Omni Flash, a multimodal model capable of generating 720p-quality video from text descriptions or editing video through simple conversation. This model was released in public preview in late June 2026, marking a major step for Google in the field of generative content creation.

Core Capabilities and Features

Multimodality and Content Processing

Gemini's main feature is its capability as a multimodal model. Users can interact with Gemini through text, voice, and images. The Gemini app allows users to take photos and ask questions about objects around them. This capability is extended with the video-to-image feature on the latest model, in which Gemini can generate high-quality thumbnails or posters from uploaded video files. Gemini is also able to create Audio Overviews, turning documents and reports into engaging podcast-style discussions, making complex content easier to consume.

Integration and Extensions

Gemini is designed to work seamlessly with the Google ecosystem. Through the extensions feature, Gemini can connect with apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Drive to help complete tasks more quickly. This capability allows Gemini, for example, to summarize email contents, search for travel routes, or find information from videos without having to open the apps separately. On Pixel 9 devices and later, Gemini is the default assistant, accessible by long-pressing the power button or using the voice command "Hey Google".

Personalization with Gems

One of the main personalization features is Gems. Gems are specialized versions of Gemini that can be customized to become "experts" on a particular topic without requiring coding skills. Users can create Gems for specific purposes such as writing editors, event planners, or sentiment analysis, by uploading instructions and reference files. Google also provides ready-made Gems, such as Learning coach for study guidance and Career guide for career preparation, which are highly useful in the education sector.

Gemini Live and Conversation

The Gemini Live feature delivers a more natural conversational experience. Users can speak with Gemini in real time, use it to brainstorm ideas, or simulate important conversations. Gemini Live is designed for smooth interaction, allowing users to share their screen or camera while speaking in order to receive contextual responses.

Models and Versions

Google releases Gemini in various model variants to meet different needs and budgets. Each model has optimized specifications, ranging from speed and cost to intelligence and multimodal capability.

Gemini 3.5 Flash

This model is a mainstay for tasks that require substantial intelligence at high speed. Released generally in May 2026, Gemini 3.5 Flash is known to be highly effective for programming tasks and long-term "agentic" tasks, offering performance comparable to large "flagship" models at a lower cost.

Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite

This variant is optimized for speed, scale, and cost efficiency. The model is well suited to simple tasks and image generation with ultra-low latency.

Gemini Omni Flash

The newest model, still in public preview. Its main capability is conversational video creation and editing. Equipped with an invisible SynthID digital watermark for content verification, this model represents a new generation of generative AI capable of creating content from various types of input.

Image Models (Nano Banana)

Gemini also has specialized visual models such as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image ("Nano Banana 2") and Gemini 3 Pro Image ("Nano Banana Pro"). These models have been generally available and excel at image creation and editing, including a feature for generating images from video.

Availability and Subscriptions

Gemini can be accessed through various platforms, including mobile apps for Android (Android 10+) and iOS, as well as through the website at gemini.google.com. Google offers several subscription plans.

The Google AI Pro plan unlocks access to the most advanced models such as 2.5 Pro, the Deep Research feature for detailed reports, and eight-second video generation with Veo 3, as well as a 1-million-token context window capable of processing up to 1,500 pages of text.

The Google AI Ultra plan is the highest tier, offering exclusive access to the most powerful models, the latest features such as Agent Mode, and the opportunity to try Google's AI innovations earlier. This plan is available in certain countries and is not for Workspace customers.

In Southeast Asia, Gemini has recorded significant user growth, more than doubling in a year. Vietnam has become the regional leader in using Gemini for academic purposes and local-language use. The country has even become the market with the highest percentage of native-language (Vietnamese) use in the region, reaching 89%.

Impact and Education

Gemini, along with other generative AI, has begun to change the way people access information. This change has sparked discussion about the future of traditional knowledge sources such as Wikipedia. Wikimedia Indonesia, for example, held the #WikipediaxAI program in 2025 to discuss how AI uses Wikipedia content and how the community can adapt. Concerns have arisen that the shift from reading articles to receiving instant summaries from AI could reduce the number of visitors to source sites and the number of new volunteer contributors.

On the other hand, Gemini offers great potential in education. In Vietnam, more than 160,000 students use the Gemini Canvas feature every month for exam preparation, while educators generate tens of thousands of teaching assistance requests every day. This use shows AI's role as a powerful supporting tool, not a replacement for human critical thinking. A comparative study even placed Gemini as a tool comparable to ChatGPT for various translation tasks, demonstrating its capability in language processing.

AION 2

AION 2 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing video game (MMORPG) currently being developed and to be published by NCSoft. The game is a direct sequel to AION: The Tower of Eternity, which was released in 2008. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, AION 2 promises a next-generation gameplay experience with a focus on vertical aerial combat, a vast world, and a combat system based on strategy and prediction.

Set in a fantasy world named Atreia, the game brings back the eternal conflict between two main factions, the Elyos and the Asmodians. Unlike its predecessor, AION 2 is designed as a cross-platform game that allows players on PC and mobile devices to play together in one connected world. The game is scheduled for a global release in September 2026.

Development and Release

The AION 2 project has been one of NCSoft's highest priorities. In August 2025, the developer held a livestream event titled AION2NIGHT to showcase in depth various core game contents, including the combat system, dungeons, and character customization. The event also served as a venue for the developer to communicate directly with the community and respond to questions from players after the Focus Group Test (FGT) held in June 2025.

Toward the end of the year, NCSoft accelerated the development phase with the goal of soon entering a closed technical test in South Korea. AION 2 is scheduled to be released simultaneously on various platforms in September 2026. The initial launch will take place in Korea and Taiwan on November 18, 2025, before eventually reaching the global market.

World and Setting

Setting and Factions

AION 2 is set in the world of Atreia, inhabited by two peoples that split apart after a great catastrophe. These two peoples are the Elyos and the Asmodians. Players will choose to join one of these factions and take on the role of a Daeva, a winged being with great power. Faction warfare, or faction war, is the core of the game, with the scale of conflict expanded into inter-server or World vs World battles involving thousands of players at once.

A Vast World and Vertical Integration

One of AION 2's most prominent features is its massive world. The game area is claimed to be 36 times larger than the original AION world map. This world is designed without terrain restrictions, allowing players to fly freely across the entire map. The concept of "verticality" is the backbone of the world's design, in which every region, battlefield, and encounter is designed with the vertical axis as its main pivot. Flight is not merely a means of transportation, but a key element in combat and exploration.

Gameplay Features

Combat

AION 2's combat system is designed to be fast, dynamic, and strategic. Unlike most MMORPGs that rely on static ability rotations, combat in AION 2 focuses on anticipation and instant counterattacks through "movement evasion" mechanics and a "situational skill combo" system. Players are required to make tactical decisions on the battlefield, not merely follow predetermined patterns. There are eight iconic classes to choose from, each with a unique playstyle, such as Gladiator, Templar, Sorcerer, and others.

A "post-judgment" system has been introduced, in which precise timing and positioning greatly affect the success of an attack. Players can chain skills and combine them to perform devastating combos, including techniques such as knockdown and airborne shackles that recall the golden era of NCSoft MMORPGs. Aerial combat is also a highlight, in which players can fight in 360-degree space, using altitude to gain a tactical advantage.

Player vs. Environment Content

AION 2 offers a wide variety of Player vs. Environment (PvE) content. There are more than 200 dungeons in various formats, ranging from solo challenges and 4-player content to 8-player raids. Each dungeon has unique rules and mechanics that present new challenges, including iconic dungeons such as the Fire Temple, which has been brought back from the original AION. In addition to dungeons, players can enjoy casual content such as Daily Dungeon, various mini-games in the wilderness, and the Shugo Festival, which features various light challenges such as protecting Shugo from enemies or pet races.

Character Customization

The character customization system in AION 2 is claimed to be one of the most advanced in the MMORPG genre. Players can adjust almost every aspect of their character's appearance, including facial and body shape, with more than 200 customization options available. This customization is not limited to numerical sliders, but uses X and Y axis graphs to sculpt certain features. Options for two-tone hair color, eyes of different colors, and unusual body types give players almost unlimited freedom of expression, allowing the creation of characters that are elegant or even strange.

Trading System

NCSoft has confirmed that the trading system in AION 2 will allow players to exchange items using in-game currency, not premium currency. This decision was made to create a fairer and more enjoyable experience for all players.

Development and Technology

Unreal Engine 5

AION 2 is built using Unreal Engine 5. The use of this technology allows NCSoft to deliver photorealistic visual quality, especially in terms of lighting systems and character detail. A seamless world without loading screens is also made possible by the power of this engine, allowing unhindered exploration.

Platforms

AION 2 will be available for PC and mobile devices. The PC version can be accessed through NCSoft's dedicated launcher called PURPLE, while the mobile version can be downloaded through the Google Play Store and the App Store. Although there has been speculation, NCSoft has not confirmed the game's availability on Steam or consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at launch. The cross-platform feature will allow PC and mobile players to play together in the same world.

Reception and Expectations

As the first sequel to the legendary AION franchise in 17 years, AION 2 has attracted great attention from the gaming community and industry observers, especially in Asia and North America. Early tests and livestreams have shown the game's great potential, with praise directed at its fast combat mechanics and in-depth customization system. AION 2 is predicted to become a strong competitor to other major MMORPG titles and is expected to set a new standard for the genre. NCSoft is committed to continuing to refine the game based on community feedback to ensure an optimal gameplay experience.

DCinside

DCinside (Hangul: 디시인사이드), often abbreviated as DC, is an internet community portal and online forum from South Korea. Founded in 1999 as a digital camera information site, the platform has grown into one of the largest and most influential online communities in South Korea, known for its strict anonymity, unique culture, and central role in shaping internet trends and public discourse in the country.

History and Development

Beginnings as a Digital Camera Forum

DCinside was first launched in October 1999 by Kim Yu-sik. Initially, the site served as a specialized community for digital camera enthusiasts, providing a space to share information about camera specifications, photography techniques, and photos taken by users. The name "DCinside" itself is an abbreviation of "Digital Camera Inside," reflecting its original focus.

Transformation into a Giant Community

Entering the early 2000s, DCinside underwent a significant transformation. The site began adding various "galleries" (discussion boards) for topics beyond photography, such as politics, entertainment, anime, games, and lifestyle. This expansion attracted a broader and more diverse user base, turning DCinside from a specialized site into a large general online community. The fragmented gallery system allowed users with highly specific interests to find and interact with one another.

In 2009, DCinside officially stopped providing specialized information about digital cameras, marking the completion of its transition into a general image and discussion community platform. Over time, the site grew into a company named PT DCinside and became one of the most visited websites in South Korea.

Features and Services

Gallery Structure

The core of DCinside is its "gallery" system. Each gallery functions like an independent message board dedicated to a particular topic, ranging from politics, stocks, and sports to K-pop idol groups and imported snacks. The number of galleries is very large, reaching tens of thousands, reflecting the diversity of users' interests. Each gallery develops its own culture and unwritten rules, although the moderation approach is generally very loose.

Anonymity and Moderation

One of DCinside's most prominent characteristics is its nearly total anonymity. Users are not required to log in or create an account to post or comment, and IP addresses are only partially visible. This environment encourages extreme freedom of expression, but it also becomes fertile ground for trolling, hate speech, and the spread of misinformation.

Although moderation is loose, DCinside has one important feature called the "gae-nyeom-geul" system (meaning "rational post"). This feature highlights and ranks posts that receive the most "likes" within each gallery, so content that is considered high-quality, funny, or insightful has a greater chance of being seen by other users.

Mobile App and Related Platforms

DCinside provides official mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. The apps allow users to access more than 75,000 galleries with features such as push notifications, night mode, blocking of certain words or IDs, image editing, and voice recording for posts. Interestingly, all of these features can be enjoyed even by non-members.

In addition to its main forum, the DCinside ecosystem includes other services such as DCWiki (a user-based wiki) and DC News. The platform also has various user-made extensions, such as "DIBE" (Dcinside Integrated Broadcast Environment), which add extra functionality such as automatic updating of post lists and display of IP information.

Culture and Influence

Hub of Internet Trends and Language

DCinside has become a primary engine of South Korean internet culture. Many popular terms and memes in Korea originated from this forum. The most famous example is the term "Hell Joseon" (Hell Joseon), a cynical phrase describing South Korean society as a place full of hopelessness and gloom, which later spread to mainstream media and international reporting. In the past, phenomena such as "A-Haeng-Haeng" culture and the birth of various iconic characters such as the puppy "Kyejuk-i" were also products of DCinside users' creativity.

Center of Controversy and Extremism

DCinside's dark side is as well known as its cultural influence. Anonymity and a lack of moderation have turned some of its galleries, especially politically oriented ones, into dens for extreme ideology, conspiracy, hate speech, and misogyny. The "Stock Market Gallery," for example, has become a breeding ground for "Dishwashing Theory," a narrative that demeans women and criticizes modern heterosexual relationships, which has also helped drive the anti-feminism movement among young Korean men.

Involvement in Political and Social Events

DCinside has several times been involved in major events. In 2010, users of the site were reported to have participated in a cyber war between Korean and Japanese internet users. More recently and more seriously, the platform was linked to the planning of riots at the Seoul District Court in January 2025, in which supporters of former President Yoon Suk Yeol stormed the courthouse. Users in galleries such as the "People Power Party Gallery" were alleged to have shared courthouse maps and attack plans in real time.

In addition, in August 2025, a bomb threat posted on DCinside triggered a large-scale evacuation at the New World Department Store in downtown Seoul. Although it later proved to be a hoax, the incident showed the platform's power to spread panic and disrupt social order.

International Expansion

Seeing the popularity of Korean culture (K-Culture) around the world, DCinside began opening services for international users, including an Indonesian-language service launched in 2024. This service provides translations of posts about current issues in Korea and offers dedicated galleries for topics such as K-Pop, travel, and Korean cuisine, allowing Indonesian users to interact with Korean content.

Comparison with Other Platforms

DCinside is often compared with global platforms such as Reddit and 4chan. Although Reddit is also a large forum with various sub-forums (subreddits), Reddit applies much stricter moderation in most of its communities and has a strong reputation (karma) system. Meanwhile, DCinside has a greater resemblance to 4chan in terms of anonymity and a "free" approach to content. However, the main difference is that 4chan is considered a niche platform in the West, while DCinside is a mainstream site and one of the most visited in South Korea.

Naver

Naver (Hangul: 네이버) is a South Korean web portal and search engine operated by Naver Corporation. Launched in 1999, Naver was the first web portal in South Korea to develop its own search engine and has transformed into one of the most influential technology companies in Asia, known not only for its dominant search engine but also for its extensive digital services ecosystem, including the instant messaging app Line and the web comic platform Webtoon. The name "Naver" itself comes from the word "navigate" with the suffix "-er", interpreted as "a navigator in the Web world".

History and Development

Founding and Early Years

Naver was founded in June 1999 by a group of former Samsung Data Systems employees led by Lee Hae-jin. Initially, the company was named Naver Comm with the goal of creating a Korean-language search engine capable of competing with foreign portals such as Yahoo, which at the time dominated the market. Naver's main advantage from the beginning was the development of a search engine optimized for the distinctive features of the Korean language, which has a syllable structure and grammar very different from Indo-European languages, making it more relevant for local users than foreign competitors.

In 2000, Naver launched the "Comprehensive Search" feature, which allowed search results from various categories such as blogs, websites, images, and news to be displayed on a single page, an innovation made five years before Google launched a similar feature.

Merger and Early Expansion

In July 2000, Naver merged with Hangame Communications Inc., a leading online game portal in South Korea founded by Kim Bum-su. This merger produced a new entity named NHN Corporation (Next Human Network) in 2001, which combined the strengths of a search engine and a game portal to create the largest internet company in South Korea.

In the same year, Naver also acquired Search Solutions, a company developed by Soongsil University professor Lee Jung-ho, which had advanced natural language search technology. This acquisition further strengthened Naver's search technology capabilities. In 2002, Naver launched the "Knowledge Search" (Knowledge iN) service, a user-based question-and-answer platform that allowed users to ask questions and receive answers from other users. This service became very popular and helped Naver build a very large Korean-language content base, becoming a forerunner of modern Q&A platforms such as Quora. Naver was officially listed on the KOSDAQ stock exchange in 2002 and later moved to KOSPI in November 2008.

Claude Code

Claude Code is an artificial intelligence-based coding agent software developed by Anthropic. Unlike conventional programming assistants that only provide code suggestions, Claude Code operates as a command-line interface (CLI) tool that can independently read, analyze, and modify an entire codebase. The tool is designed to help developers at various stages of the software development cycle, from exploring a new project and debugging to writing tests and large-scale refactoring.

History and Development

Claude Code was introduced by Anthropic as part of the Claude model ecosystem to meet the need for a more autonomous programming tool. Its main development has been marked by the launch of support for various surfaces, such as a native extension for Visual Studio Code (VS Code) and a redesigned desktop interface. One important milestone was the introduction of the checkpoint feature, which allows developers to "rewind" to a previous state of the code, providing psychological safety when carrying out large tasks. In 2026, Anthropic launched the dynamic workflows feature, which significantly increased Claude Code's capacity to handle complex projects by running hundreds of sub-agents in parallel.

Core Capabilities and Features

Claude Code offers various features that change the way developers interact with their codebases.

Terminal- and IDE-Based Agent

Claude Code runs natively in the terminal and is integrated with various Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as VS Code, JetBrains, and a desktop application. Users can start a session with the simple command claude in their project directory. In this mode, Claude can read the repository, edit files, run commands, and ask for confirmation before performing destructive actions. The checkpoint feature ensures that every change made by Claude can be undone at any time.

Dynamic Workflows

The dynamic workflows feature is a flagship capability that allows Claude Code to break complex tasks into several sub-tasks and run them in parallel using tens to hundreds of sub-agents in a single session. This enables Claude to handle work that previously took weeks in only a few days. A published case example is the use of dynamic workflows to port the Bun runtime from Zig to Rust, producing around 750,000 lines of Rust code with a 99.8% test pass rate in eleven days.

Customization and Control

Developers can give Claude permanent instructions through a CLAUDE.md file located at the project root. This file contains coding standards, architectural decisions, and a code review checklist that Claude will read at the start of every session. In addition, teams can create skills to automate repeating workflows (for example, a /ship command) and use hooks to run shell commands before or after certain actions.

Model Context Protocol (MCP)

Claude Code supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that allows AI agents to connect to various external data sources. With MCP, Claude Code can read design documents in Google Drive, update tickets in Jira, or retrieve data from Slack, making it a control center integrated with the tools already used by development teams.

Common Use Cases

Based on Anthropic's official documentation, there are ten main scenarios in which developers most often use Claude Code:

Fixing Failing Tests. When a test fails and the cause is unclear, Claude Code can trace the root problem and propose a fix without the developer first having to identify the source file.

Understanding Unfamiliar Code. Claude can guide developers through how a particular module or function works, explaining control flow and decision points in natural language.

Finding the Location of a Function. Developers can ask where a particular validation occurs, and Claude will return the exact file path and line number.

Classifying Errors. By providing a stack trace or error log, Claude can map it back to the responsible code and explain the cause.

Refactoring with a Plan. Before making large changes across many files, Claude can create a detailed plan of which files will be changed and how they will change, which the developer must approve first.

Writing Tests for Existing Code. Claude can generate new test files that match the project's existing coding style and run them to ensure everything works.

Reviewing Pull Requests. Integrated with the GitHub CLI, Claude can retrieve the diff, review comments, and CI status to produce a PR review or summary.

Onboarding to a New Repository. The /init command allows Claude to scan the project and generate a CLAUDE.md file that summarizes the architecture, build commands, and conventions used.

Handling Issues End-to-End. With MCP connectors, Claude can read a ticket, implement a fix, and validate it in a single conversation without having to switch tools.

Turning Repeating Tasks into Skills. Developers can create custom commands (such as /ship) that run a series of automated steps (for example, running tests, a linter, and creating a commit message).

Models and Pricing

Claude Code uses Anthropic's latest AI models, including Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Claude 4 Opus. It is available in several subscription plans, ranging from Claude Pro for individual use to Enterprise plans for large organizations. Team and Enterprise plans provide user management features, SSO, and usage analytics. Companies also have the option to run Claude Code through their own cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry, ensuring that data remains under their control and meets compliance standards such as SOC 2 Type II.

Nano Banana

Nano Banana is the code name for an advanced artificial intelligence (AI)–based image generation and editing model developed by Google. Introduced in late August 2025 as part of the Gemini model family, specifically Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, the technology quickly became a viral phenomenon on social media because of its ability to generate and edit images with high quality, precision, and exceptional character consistency using only natural language prompts. The name "Nano Banana" itself comes from an efficient Gemini model variant ("Nano") and an unusual internal nickname during development ("Banana").

History and Development

Speculation about the existence of "Nano Banana" began circulating among internet users after Google engineers and eventually CEO Sundar Pichai posted banana emojis on social media. The mystery was answered on August 26, 2025, when Google officially announced the launch of its latest image model, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, whose code name is Nano Banana. This launch marked a significant improvement over the previous generation image model, Gemini 2.0 Flash, with a focus on higher image quality and stronger creative control for users.

Since its launch, Nano Banana has experienced a spectacular surge in popularity. In its first month alone, more than 500 million images were generated by users around the world using its visual editing feature. Thanks to this model, the Gemini app succeeded in attracting 23 million new users and rose to the top of the App Store and Google Play in various countries, including Indonesia.

Core Capabilities and Features

Image Generation and Editing with High Consistency

Nano Banana's main advantage lies in its ability to produce unmatched image consistency. Unlike many other AI generators that often struggle to maintain visual continuity, Nano Banana excels at preserving intricate details such as facial expressions, hand movements, lighting, textures, and spatial relationships across generated elements. This capability is especially important for projects that require a uniform appearance of characters, style, or environmental details.

Users can upload an existing image and give natural language text instructions to edit it, such as changing the background, replacing clothing, or adding objects, while the model ensures that the main subject remains recognizable and consistent. For example, someone can upload a photo of themselves and see how they would look with a different haircut or particular clothing, all while still looking like themselves.

Natural Language Understanding and Conversational Editing

Nano Banana is designed to understand complex instructions in everyday language. Users do not need technical expertise such as using Photoshop; they simply describe what they want, for example "replace the cloudy sky with a sunset and add a flying drone," and the model will execute it. The conversational editing feature allows users to carry out a series of edits in sequence while keeping the image style and lighting consistent.

Multi-Image Merging

Another innovative capability is multi-image merging, which allows users to combine several images into one cohesive visual. Google gave the example that someone can upload a photo of themselves and a photo of their dog to create "the perfect portrait of the two of you on a basketball court." This fusion technology creates a perfect composition with a simple prompt.

Models in the Nano Banana Family

The platform offers several model variants tailored to different needs, all built on Gemini's multimodal capabilities and responsive even to the most detailed prompts.

Nano Banana Pro is the flagship model designed for image generation and editing with professional studio-level precision and control. This model is built on Gemini 3 and allows users to imagine and create almost anything, from detailed images to realistic or imaginative ones. Nano Banana 2 offers professional-level image generation and editing at lightning speed, based on the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image model. Meanwhile, Nano Banana 2 Lite is the fastest and most efficient model, providing the highest speed and lowest cost for generation and editing.

Impact and Viral Phenomenon

3D Action Figurine Trend

Nano Banana became highly viral thanks to the trend of turning ordinary photos into highly realistic 3D action figurines. Users used prompts to turn self-portraits, celebrities, or cartoon characters into collectible statues that look like toys in packaging, often with bases and custom packaging that make them look like products on a store shelf. This trend flooded social media platforms such as X, Reddit, and Instagram.

Democratization of Aesthetics and Democratization of Creativity

The Nano Banana phenomenon marks a kind of democratization of aesthetics, in which anyone can look like a celebrity or create professional-class visuals without needing design skills or expensive equipment. In Indonesia, this culture was quickly adopted, where people from various backgrounds can turn simple photos into stunning works of art.

Cross-Platform Integration

Google has aggressively integrated Nano Banana into its application ecosystem. After its success in the Gemini App and Google AI Studio, the model is in the process of being integrated into Google Messages, allowing users to edit and generate images directly from text conversations. It has also been demonstrated in Google Lens and is being developed for Google Photos.

Access and Availability

Nano Banana can be accessed globally through the Gemini app or Google AI Studio. The model is available to free and paid users, although free users may have daily production limits and slower processing speeds, while paid accounts remove most of those limitations.

All images created or edited with Nano Banana include a SynthID digital watermark that is both visible and invisible to indicate that the image was generated by AI.

Impact and Criticism

Although it offers unlimited ease and creativity, the emergence of Nano Banana has also raised questions about authenticity and psychological impact. The ability to drastically change appearance so easily can lead to cultural dissonance, in which people trust their digital selves more than their real selves. There are concerns that a generation of users may become more occupied with arranging AI prompts than living real life.

The question of "who we are without filters, without edits, without a nano banana overlaying our faces" has become an important reflection amid the onslaught of technology that increasingly blurs the line between reality and virtuality.

OpenClaw

OpenClaw is an open-source, self-hosted autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) agent software. The project allows users to interact with a powerful AI assistant through various instant messaging applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, and many more. Known for its red lobster icon, OpenClaw is designed to act as an "operating system" for AI agents, capable of independently carrying out complex tasks on the user's computer. The project was first released in November 2025 by Austrian software developer Peter Steinberger, and quickly gained great popularity among developers and power users.

History and Development

The project's journey has been marked by several significant name changes. It was initially released under the name Clawdbot in November 2025, a pun on Anthropic's Claude chatbot. However, Anthropic objected to the use of a potentially confusing name, so the project was briefly renamed Moltbot in late January 2026. The name Moltbot, inspired by the process of a lobster shedding its shell, was considered unsuitable, and three days later the project finally settled on its permanent name, OpenClaw. The new name reflects the project's open-source spirit and its "lobster" heritage.

Another important milestone occurred in February 2026, when the project's founder, Peter Steinberger, announced that he would be joining OpenAI. To ensure the project's continuity as free and independent software, OpenClaw was transferred to a nonprofit foundation-based governance model, with Steinberger remaining in primary technical control. This step has been compared to the foundations behind other major open-source projects such as Linux and Apache, with the ambition of becoming "the Switzerland of AI" — a neutral party that all sides can rely on.

Architecture and How It Works

OpenClaw is designed with an architecture that prioritizes flexibility and user control. The core of the system is the Gateway, a process that runs as a daemon on the user's machine (macOS, Linux, or Windows via WSL2). This Gateway acts as a "bridge" or control center that connects various messaging platforms with the AI engine and the tools available on the user's local system. This architecture follows a hub-and-spoke model, in which the Gateway is the center coordinating all other subsystems.

OpenClaw's workflow begins when a user sends a message to the bot in their chosen chat application. The Gateway captures the message and sends it to the Context Orchestrator, which enriches the command with information from the user's long-term memory to create personal and relevant context. Next, the command is passed to a Large Language Model (LLM) through the LLM Routing layer, which supports various model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, as well as local models through Ollama. After the LLM generates a response or decides to take an action, the command is executed in a secure Sandbox Environment through the AgentSkills system, preventing potential damage to the main system.

Main Features

OpenClaw has a number of features that distinguish it from conventional AI assistants:

· Multiple Communication Channels: One of OpenClaw's main selling points is its ability to connect to many chat applications at the same time, including Discord, Google Chat, iMessage, Matrix, Microsoft Teams, Signal, Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, Zalo, and others through channel plugins. A single Gateway can serve all configured channels simultaneously.

· Data Sovereignty and Privacy: Because it is self-hosted, all configuration data, interactions, and memory are stored locally on the user's device. Users have full control over their data without having to depend on third-party cloud services.

· Long-Term Memory: OpenClaw uses a local vector database to store long-term memory, allowing the AI to remember the user's preferences, projects, and context over time.

· Autonomous Capabilities: More than just a chatbot, OpenClaw can act independently to complete tasks. This includes the ability to automate a browser (for example, for data scraping), write and execute its own code, and manage files and applications on the operating system.

· User Interface and Mobile Apps: OpenClaw is equipped with a web-based Control UI for managing sessions, workspaces, and usage. In mid-2026, the project also launched native apps for iOS and Android, allowing interaction through text and voice from mobile devices.

Security and Challenges

Although it offers great control and capability, OpenClaw also presents significant security risks, a challenge acknowledged by its developers.

· Prompt Injection Risk: As an autonomous agent with access to systems and tools, OpenClaw is vulnerable to prompt injection attacks, in which an attacker can insert harmful commands into input that appears legitimate in order to persuade the AI to take unwanted actions.

· Overly Broad Access: If not configured carefully, OpenClaw can be given overly broad permissions, which can potentially cause damage, such as a case in which OpenClaw accidentally deleted many emails.

· Malware Risk: A report from cybersecurity company Hudson Rock showed that infostealers (data-stealing malware) can steal OpenClaw identities and settings from infected machines, giving hackers full access to accounts and personal data.

To mitigate these risks, developers and security experts recommend running OpenClaw in an isolated environment (sandbox), applying the principle of least privilege, regularly monitoring activity logs, and always updating the software.

Recent Developments and the Future

OpenClaw continues to be actively developed with regular updates. Releases such as v2026.6.11 and v2026.7.1 show a focus on improving message delivery reliability across various channels, user interface updates, and support for the latest AI models.

One of the most significant developments is the announcement of OpenClaw's transition into a nonprofit foundation in July 2026. This step was taken to ensure the project's independence, sustainability, and neutrality in the future, with the goal of becoming a standard foundation for AI agent development. However, the step has also drawn skepticism because of the project founder's close involvement with OpenAI, raising questions about the true neutrality of the foundation. OpenClaw's future appears likely to remain a center of attention in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, both because of its great technological potential and because of the governance and security challenges it brings.

OpenCode

OpenCode is an open-source AI coding agent software developed to help software developers write, edit, and run code through an artificial intelligence–based interface. The project is managed by Anomaly Innovations Inc. and was launched on April 22, 2025. OpenCode is presented as an alternative to proprietary tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, carrying a philosophy of openness and high flexibility.

History and Development

The project has its roots in the team behind Serverless Stack (SST), founded by Jay V and Frank Wang in 2017 in San Francisco. SST is known as a framework for building serverless applications, and the team received investment support from Y Combinator in July 2021. Names such as Reid Hoffman (founder of LinkedIn), Max Levchin (founder of PayPal), and Steve Chen (founder of YouTube) are also recorded as investors in this development ecosystem.

OpenCode was officially introduced in mid-2025, with its first stable version released on April 22, 2025. In January 2026, the project had collected more than 69,800 stars on GitHub, and that number continued to surge to more than 160,000 stars with 900 active contributors by mid-2026.

Architecture and Philosophy

Unlike its monolithic competitors, OpenCode is built with a client/server architecture that separates the user interface from the processing core. This approach provides greater flexibility in terms of extensibility and the ability to run in various environments. The application is licensed under the MIT License, which allows free use, modification, and redistribution for commercial or personal purposes.

Main Features

Broad Language Model Support

One of OpenCode's main advantages is that it is agnostic toward large language model providers. Users can connect it to various models from providers such as OpenAI, Google (Gemini), and Anthropic (Claude). In addition, OpenCode supports local models run through Ollama or LM Studio, and can be integrated with an existing GitHub Copilot subscription. In total, more than 75 model providers are supported.

OpenCode also provides the OpenCode Zen service, a model optimized specifically for coding tasks, to ensure consistent response quality for users who may not have access to premium models.

User Interface

To accommodate diverse workflow preferences, OpenCode is available in various interface forms:

· TUI (Terminal User Interface): An interactive text-based interface that runs directly inside the terminal.

· CLI (Command Line Interface): A non-interactive mode that accepts commands directly from command-line arguments.

· Desktop Application: Available in a beta version for a more visual user experience, downloadable through the official release page.

· IDE Extension: Integrated with Visual Studio Code and other VS Code–based editors through a dedicated extension.

· ACP Protocol: Supports the Agent Client Protocol for connections to editors such as Zed, IntelliJ IDEA, and Neovim.

Built-in Agents and Automation

OpenCode includes two built-in agents that can be activated easily:

1. build: An agent with full access for development work, able to edit files and run system commands.

2. plan: An agent with read-only access for code exploration and planning, designed to analyze a codebase without the risk of unwanted changes.

In addition, there is a general sub-agent that can be called for complex search tasks and multi-step analysis. OpenCode can also be run automatically in CI/CD workflows on platforms such as GitHub and GitLab.

Extensibility and Protocols

The project is built using industry-standard protocols to expand its capabilities:

· Model Context Protocol (MCP): Allows OpenCode to interact with external tools and data servers.

· Language Server Protocol (LSP): Provides deep contextual understanding of code, such as diagnostics, symbol definitions, and autocomplete, tailored to the project's technology stack.

Ecosystem and Integration

OpenCode Telegram Bot

An open-source project named opencode-telegram-bot allows users to remotely control their local OpenCode instance through the Telegram messaging app. The bot bridges messages from Telegram to an OpenCode server running on a local computer, allowing users to give commands or send files from a phone or other device without having to open a firewall port. This feature includes support for voice prompts (through Whisper), session switching, and model control.

Platforms and Distribution

OpenCode can be installed on various operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux. Installation methods are highly diverse, ranging from a quick curl installation script, package managers such as Homebrew, Scoop, and Chocolatey, to distribution through Flathub for sandboxed Linux environments. Its presence on Alibaba Cloud Model Studio also shows an effort to reach users in the Asia-Pacific region.

Impact and Reception

OpenCode has become one of the fastest-growing open-source projects in the software development world. By mid-2026, the project recorded more than 7.5 million monthly active users. Its popularity has been partly driven by the cultural shift toward "vibe coding", in which developers use artificial intelligence to efficiently translate nuanced ideas into code. Its competitive advantage lies in the freedom to choose an AI model and its ability to be self-hosted, making it a primary choice for companies with strict data privacy policies.
